Credit: Plate in Albert Beveridge's Life of John Marshall, published in 1916. The provenance of the plate is described at page xxi, Volume 1: "From a portrait in the possession of Miss Sallie Marshall, of Leeds, Virginia. The portrait was painted some time between 1790 and 1800, but the painter's name is unknown. The reproduction is from a photograph furnished by Mr. Douglas H. Thomas."
