Description: In intertidal reef-flat environments, massive Porites form characteristic ‘microatoll’ formations, with living tissues around the perimeter, and dead skeleton on the exposed upper surface. Microatoll growth is predominantly lateral, as vertical growth is limited by a lack of accommodation space.
