Description: Mitchel Square in New York City is the triangle formed by Broadway and St. Nicholas Avenue between West 166th and 168th Streets in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan. It is named after John Purroy Mitchel, the youngest mayor of New York City. The focus of the square is the Washington Heights-Inwood War Memorial by Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, dedicated on May 30, 1922. The monument honors men from those neighborhoods who died in World War I. (Source: NYC Parks Dept)
