Description: A circular gold 'Cross Country Champion' medal with chain mount from Stockport Harriers Club dating to 1930. The front of the medal has the Stockport Harriers logo of an conjoined S and H raised from the medal within a raised outline of a shield. This is surrounded by a bright gold dappled background, which in turn is circled by the words 'Stockport Harriers Club -1930' in a border. The recessed areas around the letters and background of th shield are now rose gold in colour although a patch of blue by one of the letters may be enamel. On the reverse within a raised border there is inscribed 'E. BARNES' / 'CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPION'. The makers mark at the bottom of the reverse read 'LP & A' (Lloyd, Paine & Amiel). The hallmarks indicate it is 9ct gold, hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay in 1929. At the top of the medal is a separate applied foliate attachment which has two branches curving to the centre where there is a circular loop. There is a separate rose gold or copper free running loop through this upper loop. The diameter of the medal is 28.7mm, 38.1mm high with the attachment piece and 2.5mm thick and weighs 15.35g. The Stockport Harriers club was formed when the Reddish, Marple, & Davenport Harriers decided to amalgamate in September 1911 as stated in the Northern running guide [accessed 15/10/19: https://northernrunningguide.com/news/centenary-celebrations-for-stockport-harriers].
