Description: Monument in Canterbury Cathedral to John Boys (1571-1625) was Dean from 1619 to 1625. He is shown in his study infont of a bookcase. In 1599 he married Angela Bargrave of Bridge in Kent. His successor w:Isaac Bargrave (1586-1643), Dean of Canterbury from 1625 to 1643, was the sixth son of Robert Bargrave, of Bridge, Kent. John Boys died suddenly in his study in 1625. The monument was erected by his wife. Heraldic escutcheons: Top: Quarterly of 6: 1&6: Arms of Boys "of Kent": Or, a griffin segreant sable a bordure gules (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.111) 2: On a chevron between three buckles five .... 3: On a fess between three .....'s heads erased three roundels 4: Quarterly per fess indented ermine and ... a bordure .... 5: A chevron between three trefoils slipped Middle row, left: A cross impaling Boys; Middle row, middle: Boys; Middle row, right: Boys impaling Or, on a pale gules a sword erect argent pomel and hilt of the field a chief azure charged with three bezants (Bargrave of Bifrons Hall in the parish of Patrixbourne in Kent (descended from Bargrave of Bridge, Kent( B.M.
