Description: The sagebrush steppe in this area is dominated by Artemisia tridentata vaseyana (note the inflorescence arising from the top of each shrub), Chrysothamnus viscidiflorus and Ch. nauseosus, Elymus salina and E. elymoides, Oryzopsis hymenoides, and Tetradymia canescens. Agropyron trachycaulum and Bromus inermis are common in the most disturbed areas (e.g., roadsides). Bromus tectorum as absent from the sagebrush steppe of this area, which is expected for mountain big sagebrush steppe. Note in this photo that the lemma midribs not lined up with the narrow glumes, and the inflorescence spike has mostly one spikelet per node, which combined with rhizomatous but bunchy habit are distinguishing of Elymus salina.
