Description: Memorial obelisk atop Pilot Knob at Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park in Benton County, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The obelisk, erected in 1930-1931, has engravings on each side which read: NATHAN BEDFORD FORREST (side 1) COMMEMORATING THE CAPTURE OF FEDERAL GUNBOATS BY FORREST'S CAVALRY DURING THE JOHNSONVILLE EXPEDITION NOVEMBER 4, 1864 (side 2) ERECTED BY MONUMENT AND MEMORIAL COMMISSION AND DIVISION OF HISTORY STATE OF TENNESSEE 1930 (side 3) "FAITH IS THE DUTY OF THE HOUR." N.B. FORREST, MAJOR-GENERAL TO LIEUTENANT-GENERAL RICHARD TAYLOR, NOVEMBER 12, 1864. (side 4) The cannon at the base of the monument is aimed at the site of Old Johnsonville, on the other side of the river.
