Description: Replication of a Ngaro cave painting in Nara Inlet, Hook Island, Whitsunday Islands, Queensland, Australia. The age of the painting is unable to be authenticated. Subject may be nonfigurative ("dream-time" doodling) or may indicate that a ladder is required to reach additional caves in the area where prominent aborigine elders were buried. It may also represent a trail or path as some similar aborigine paintings do, or perhaps the trunk of a coconut palm tree. The Ngaro people would not likely be aware of coconut palms unless they had traveled great distances or communicated with other peoples in Southeast Asia.
