Description: Retrato póstumo del eclesiástico, erudito y bibliógrafo sevillano Nicolás Antonio (1617-1684), que estudió Artes Liberales en el colegio de Santo Tomás en 1635 y pasó posteriormente por Salamanca y Roma. De regreso en Sevilla, comenzó a redactar su obra más famosa, Bibliotheca hispana vetus, en 1672, y Bibliotheca hispana nova en 1696,, que eran un índice de los escritores españoles desde el emperador Augusto hasta el siglo XVII. En esta obra, que procede de la Biblioteca de San Acacio, el erudito aparece vestido con un traje negro y luciendo la cruz roja de la Orden de Santiago, en la que obtuvo un hábito en 1645 por concesión del rey Felipe IV.
