Description: At sunset, CTA car 5037 leads Loop-bound Pink Line run 311 into Kedzie station on the Cermak / Douglas Branch in Chicago's North Lawndale neighborhood. The Douglas Branch was completely rebuilt between 2001 and 2005, and in 2006 the new Pink Line began service to the Loop via the branch. Previously, it had only been served by weekday Blue Line trains that did not use the Forest Park Branch. Rush-period-only Blue Line trains continued to use the Douglas 'L' alongside the Pink Line service until 2008. The combination of the then-new Pink Line service plus the extra Blue Line trains that were no longer diverted to the branch meant that service to 54th/Cermak as well as to Forest Park could be significantly increased. This also gave Douglas Branch passengers a one-seat ride directly to the West Side and the Loop 'L'.
