Description: This is the Kilkenny Design Centre, originally constructed as the stables for the adjacent Kilkenny Castle in 1780. The building originally featured a blind arcade flanking the central coach entrance, which was opened when the building was adaptively reused as retail space to allow more light into the first floor of the building. The building features many classical elements, including a Doric cornice and a centrally located pediment. The center of the building is a courtyard, which is formed by orthogonal front and side wings, and a semi-circular rear wing that arcs away from the front wing. The courtyard also features several circular windows from the upper floors of the stable, which allowed light and air into the building in the past. Today, the building has been creatively reused as the Kilkenny Design Centre, and houses a variety of artisan crafts shops that cater to the tourists that flock to the town each year, and compliments the museum in the Kilkenny Castle across the street.
