Description: The Dhofar War. This is Hedgehog 'Charlie' one of 5 'Hedgehogs' protecting Salalah airfield from adoo (enemy) small-arms fire and RPG's. However, the Adoo, began to launch 122mm Katyusha rockets from the forward slopes of the distant jebel, resulting in a secondary line of defensive positions known as 'the Dianas' being established on the jebel itself.. Prior to the Dianas, one Katyusha rocket actually landed in the Officers' Mess garden, at RAF Salalah. This photo was taken during the early Khareef ( monsoon), and the jebel is already covered in wet mist and drizzle.
