Image: Oregon Trunk railroad bridge lift span and former swing span, viewed from southeast
Description: The southernmost portion of the Oregon Trunk Rail Bridge (or Celilo Bridge), viewed from the southeast, on the Oregon side of the Columbia River, looking towards Washington. The bridge was built in 1911 and opened in January 1912, but did not originally include a vertical-lift span. The truss span at left is a former swing span. The lift span was installed in 1957 to replace the swing span's function, and the swing span has been inoperable since 1956.
