Description: Rostopchina Ekaterina Petrovna (1775-1859), wife of F.V. Rostopchina. In 1806, under the influence of the envoy of the Kingdom of Sardinia, Count Joseph de Mestre, she converted to Catholicism. She spent the rest of her life as a recluse in the village of Voronovo and in Moscow. She was mystical and indifferent to secular life. For her quiet temper and modest appearance, guests of the house often mistook her for a maid. Rostopchin is depicted almost ascetic, in a suit that she did not change until her death. The figure seems constrained, but a barely noticeable inclination, a dreamy and slightly restless look create a special feeling of breathing life. It is paired to the portrait of F.V. Rostopchin.
