Description: A depiction of the eastern face of the Oronsay Cross, located on the Oronsay, near Colonsay. It is commonly called "The Prior's Cross" however this is in error due to confusion in the translation. According to Steer and Bannerman the cross was carved for Malcolm MacDuffie, lord of Colonsay, sometime between 1472 and 1509. They suggest a date sometime after 1500. Inscription upon the west face of the cross reads: +HEC EST CR/UX COLINI F/ILII CRISTI/NI M(EIC)DUFACI +MAELSEACHL[AI]ND SAER / [OCUIN]N FECIT IST[AM C]RUCE[M] "This is the cross of Colinus (Malcolm), son of Christinus MacDuffie" "Mael-Sechlainn O'Cuinn, mason, made this cross"
