Description: Per Villand's photo taken by Sigmund Krøvel-Velle, for the Hallingdølen newspaper, Ål, Norway. Note: In 1999, it was discovered that Per Villand was affected by ALS, a disease that paralyses the nerve system. He had enough knowledge to make his own diagnosis, already before the illness was diagnosed in the hospital. In collaboration with Norway's foremost professors, plans developed for the full-time care and supervision in a home-building that was built in connection with the parental house. In the end, Per Villand was able to communicate with the help of a computer, controlled by his eye movements. He hoped to live long enough so that science could complete the research of the disease, but at the end of 2007 he passed away.
