Description: Circle of Thomas Bardwell (East Anglia 1704-1767 Norwich) Portrait of Elizabeth, Viscountess Lewisham (d. 1745), Countess of Guilford, half-length, in a white dress with blue trimmings and a lace cap, in a feigned oval with indentifying inscription Elizth: Baroness North Daugh:/of Sir Arther [sic.] Kayel [sic.] Bart. (centre left) oil on canvas 30 x 25 in. (76.3 x 63.5 cm.) The sitter was the daughter of Arthur Kaye, Bt. She firstly married George Legge, Viscount Lewisham (1705-1732), and secondly Francis, 3rd Lord Guilford and 7th Lord North, later 1st Earl of Guilford, in 1736 after the death of his first wife, Lady Lucy Montagu, in 1734. She became stepmother to Frederick, Lord North, 2nd Earl of Guilford, K.G. (1732-1793). Following her death in 1745, Francis North married thirdly Katherine, Countess of Rockingham (d. 1766), the widow of Lewis Watson, 2nd Earl of Rockingham
