Description: Political cartoon from 1901. Matthew Quay, who had been denied re-election to the Senate in 1899 because he was tried (and later acquitted) for misuse of state funds, celebrates after being elected in 1901. Quay had sent a telegram to a bank holding state funds promising if they made an investment with the public money, that he would "shake the plum tree". He is seen under such a tree.
