Description: Designed by architects Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson and built in 1912 the Mechanical Laboratory was the second building on Rice University campus. It served as the campus’ only power plant until South Plant was built nearly a century later. The Power House is now called the Central Plant and still provides power to a majority of the campus.
