Description: Robert Burton's library in Christ Church Library, Oxford. In his will, Burton split his large library between the Bodleian and Christ Church libraries. According to Dewey (1969): "As in the Bodleian, the anatomist's [i.e. Burton's] books were "scattered indiscriminately" through out the Christ Church library (where Burton himself had once been the librarian), so it became a source of gratification to [William] Osler that he was permitted to gather them there in a conspicuous place, surrounding a copy of the Brasenose portrait [of Burton]."
