Description: This branch of Marshall Field department store was opened at Cherryvale Mall in 1973. CherryVale is in the southwest part of Rockford (actually in the village of Cherry Valley). In many ways, Cherryvale and the area around it became Rockford's new "downtown." This Marshall Field is in no way comparable to the State Street store in Chicago. Marshall Field has been taken over by Macy's and renamed. I have heard that is is now even less distinctive. Marshall Field was Rockford's best department store, but had a different order of style than Marshall Field's famous main store on State Street in downtown Chicago - a veritable temple of shopping. Peoria never had a Marshall Field. Anyway, it is now all Macy's.  :-(
