Description: First known in the 9th century, when Vikings, from Rye, Denmark (pronounced "Ru"), first settled here. It would not have been much more than a group of huts in the marshes. Some local family names have Danish origins. Le beffroi, témoin des libertés communales accordées à la Ville en 1220, reconstruit après la Guerre de Cent Ans, a été récemment classé (avec les beffrois de Belgique et de France) sur la liste du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO. C'est toujours l'Hôtel de Ville de Rue, et deux ailes de style néogothique ont été construites au xixe siècle pour satisfaire aux besoins de la commune.
