Description: Jazz has always been a liberating music that brought unity and hope throughout the world. This picture was taken inside of the historic home of Rufus Harley Jr., who is known as the world's first Jazz bagpipe jazz musician. His home is located in Germantown, Philadelphia PA.. Harley was internationally recognized for adopting the bagpipes into the jazz idiom. In addition to playing jazz on the bagpipes, Harley played various saxophones equally well. He was born in Wake County, North Carolina on May 20th 1936, but moved to Philadelphia PA, with his mother while still in elementary school. He later mastered the saxophone, flute, and bagpipes.
