Description: 5,589 GRT cargo steamship West Arrow under way. Skinner & Eddy Corp of Seattle, Washington built launched her as J.C. Eddy on 23 May 1918. She was considered for acquisition by the US Navy in World War I and assigned the registry ID # 2585, but was not taken over. The US Shipping Board renamed her West Arrow and owned her until 1935, when the British shipping company Cairns, Young and Noble of Newcastle-upon-Tyne bought her and renamed her Black Osprey. The German submarined U-96 sank her in the North Atlantic in 1941. The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM. US Naval Historical Center Photograph.
