Description: An instructor and cadets of the Cadet Corps of the Saltus Grammar School in the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, circa 1901. This would be expanded to other schools in 1907 as the Bermuda Cadet Corps. Among the cadets shown is Charles Gray Gosling Gilbert, who later served in the Royal West Kent Regiment and the Machine Gun Corps during the First World War, earning the Military Cross in France. After the war he became the long-time director of the Department of Education of the Government of Bermuda. One of his sons was Major-General Glyn Gilbert, one of the two highest-ranking Bermudians ever to serve in the British Army.
