Description: A trawler is a boat equipped for trawling, a pocket-shaped net dragged along the bottom of the water or near the surface by one or two vessels. This catching technique is the most widely used in the world. Trawlers are responsible for more than half of the world's catches. Trawlers can operate different types of trawls. In this diagram, it is a pelagic trawl, namely a towed net that moves in open water, between the surface and the bottom, without being in contact with it. As with bottom trawling, there are simple pelagic trawls towed by a single vessel and pair trawls towed by two trawlers. The pelagic trawl is generally much larger than the bottom trawl. Its front part is made of simple ropes or very large meshes, which push the schools of fish towards the rear part of the net. The trawl immersion is monitored using a sounder located at the front of the trawl, the netzsonde.
