Description: The temporary downtown terminal station of the Seattle Center Monorail in 1987, on 5th Avenue just north of Stewart Street, during work to realign the southernmost section of the monorail line to follow 5th Avenue (instead of Westlake Mall) south of Olive Way. This station replaced the monorail's longtime downtown station that was located over Pine Street and closed on September 1, 1986. By the time of this photo, the original monorail guideway south of Stewart Street had been demolished, but in 1988 a new section of guideway was built, leading to a new, permanent replacement station at the then-new Westlake Center, which section was ready for testing by fall 1988 but did not open for service until February 1989. A small portion of the Westin Seattle hotel is visible at right.
