Description: Seven banks and ditches on uphill side of Whitley Castle, Epiacum Roman Fort, in moorland near Alston, Cumbria. The ditches trap water and are filled with tufts of rushes (Juncus sp.) contrasting with the brighter grass of the banks. The photo is taken from the main bank which held the wall of the fort.
