Description: The site of the 1868 Battle of Beecher Island — as it appeared in 1917. Located in Yuma County, northeastern Colorado. The Arickaree flows near the camp. The south channel of the Arickaree has closed up, owing to the stream's sifting silt depositions. Prairie landscape flora covers the terrain. Shown are tents, buildings, horses, and cattle at an annual scout reunion near Wray, to commemorate the battle. The "Battle of Beecher Island Monument" is visible in the distance. Beecher Island is on the National Register of Historic Places. Credits File copied from http://digital.denverlibrary.org/u?/p15330coll22,33268 Photographer was Earl Alonzo Brininstool (died 1957).
