Description: This slab shows three figures, a Greek and two Amazons, and a figure carved across the join between two slabs (1007 and 1008), an Amazon. On the left a Greek and Amazon are in combat over a fallen Amazon. The bearded Greek draws back. He wears a Corinthian helmet with crest and chlamys and holds a shield. An Amazon presses forward from the right while she draws a bow, as can be seen from the action of her hands. She wears a chiton belted at the waist over a sleeved tunic and trousers. A quiver hangs on her left hip. Her hair is waved back and falls in locks down her neck. The fallen Amazon lies at full length on the ground to the right. Her left arm is stretched out and her right arm is bent. She wears a chiton belted at the waist, leaving her right breast bare, trousers and shoes (or boots). Her hair is drawn up into a knot on top of her head. To the right an Amazon, on the slab join, swings back to the left in combat with a Greek on the next slab. Her right arm is raised, probably preparing to strike with a spear. She thrusts her shield at her opponent. She wears a chiton over a sleeved tunic, trousers and shoes and holds a shield. Her hair is waved back and covers the nape of her neck. The weapons were attached in metal, carved or may have been painted. Slab 1007 is part of a sequence that continues on slabs 1008 and 1010.
