Description: Picture of the Smithfield Congregational (United) Church (currently Smithfield United Church of Christ), located at 620 Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on September 18, 2010. Built in 1926, architect Henry Hornbostel, it is on the List of Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation Historic Landmarks. This church has an interesting spire that is ornately decorated, semi-hollow, and likely made of steel. In this picture the church is covered in a mostly-transparent shroud of sorts. Perhaps the covering is meant to help try and protect the building and its old stained glass while some type of remodeling or renovation work is being done.
