Description: The South Branch Library of the Cleveland Public Library System. A Carnegie Library. The building closed on March 16, 2013 while an extensive community engagement program was launched. After an extensive community process performed by the Kent State University Cleveland Urban Design Collaborative (CUDC) for the Cleveland Public Library. The South Branch underwent a renovation and addition designed by local Cleveland firm HBM Architects and Interior Designers. The addition completed the original 1910 designs for the Branch with an entrance on Clark Avenue. The Library’s thought in 1911 was to revisit the building after the construction project with Carnegie funds were finished to complete the additional façade. The addition added a new façade with access to Clark Avenue, with a much needed ADA access as well as a large meeting room, and ADA restrooms. The project kept the original front stone façade as well as the interior woodwork and perimeter shelving. The Branch reopened to business on December 1, 2018.
