Description: Southwest ditch and rampart at Clearbury Ring. The ditch (centre) and rampart (right) of this iron-age hillfort support a large number of trees, mainly beech, which make this an even more prominent local landmark. There was a fashion at some time in the past (1700s?) for planting ancient earthworks with beech trees to improve their aspect; nearby Old Sarum is a case in point.
