Description: Re-enactment of the first operation under anesthesia (ether). The actual operation took place on October 16, 1846; this re-enactment took place shortly afterwards. Daguerrotype by the famed en:Southworth & Hawes partnership of Boston. Alas this image is not as good as many of their surviving works.
