Description: Grigory Zinoviev, Chairman of The Petrograd Soviet addresses the crowd on the first International Workers' Day after the October Uprising (the Bolshevik Revolution). Date: May 1 1918. Place: Fields of Mars, Petrograd. Context: Zinoviev was one of the seven leaders of the first Politburo, founded in 1917 in order to manage the Uprising in 1917: Lenin, Trotsky, Zinoviev, Kamenev, Stalin, Sokolnikov, and Bubnov. He became the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Comintern when it was created in March 1919 to spread the uprising worldwide. Grigory Zinoviev was executed in 1936, following the court case known as Trial of Sixteen. This trial started the historical period known as The Great Purge.
