Description: Warwick Town Hall and adjacent shops, ca. 1890 In this photograph the clock has yet to be installed. The ceremony of laying the foundation stone of this building, the third Warwick Town Hall, was attended by the Premier of Queensland, Sir Samuel Griffith and Lady Griffith. The ceremony took place on 12 August 1887. The first Town Hall was a slab building which had originally been built as the Court House at the corner of Albert and Albion Streets in 1849. In 1873 the Council purchased the Masonic Hall, a brick building in Palmerin Street, as the second Town Hall. This site was later occupied by the Warwick Argus newspaper office and from 1919 by the Warwick Daily News. On one side of the Town Hall is the chemist shop of C.H. Ward.
