Description: A város kiváltságlevelében megfogalmazzák címerének leírását is: „álló, hasított katonai pajzs, jobb felén két folyó - a Tiszát és a Marost jelképezve - kék mezőben fut és folyik alá, a pajzs bal oldalán felezett sas kiterjesztett szárnnyal, lába karmával aranyos jogart tartva ezüst mezőben, természethűen lefestve látható … a pajzson épp csak ráhelyezett rostélyos vagy nyitott katonai sisak van királyi diadémmal és egy, a korong felett álló ezüstbárányt díszként elővezetve… a sisak csúcsáról innen (jobbról) ezüst és vörös, onnan (balról) pedig arany és kék foszlányokkal vagy szalagokkal” ékesített. Az eltérés a bal mező esetében szembeötlő, hogy ez mikor következett be, nincs adatunk rá, de az 1993-ban kiadott „Szeged város jelképeiről“ szóló közgyűlési rendeletben már úgy szerepel.
