Description: Scythian golden deer shield ornaments from Iron Age 6th century BC: Above, the Golden Deer of Zöldhalompuszta. Below, the Golden Deer of Tapiószentmárton. The deer figures embossed from electrum (an alloy of gold and silver) served as shield decorations and symbolized the social status and power of their wearers. Objects similar to the deer figure are found among the finds of Scythian princely kurgans in the Eurasian steppe. The Zöldhalompuszta golden deer was found in 1928 as part of a group of grave finds in Zöldhalompuszta (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county) belonging to Mezőkeresztes. It was made of gold plate with embossing, the animal's head and legs are decorated with a cord pattern, the surface between the antlers and the neck shows a bird's head with a hooked beak. The Zöldhalompuszta golden deer is 37 cm, making it the largest Scythian golden deer known. The golden deer in Tápiószentmárton in Pest county was found in 1923, it is 22.7 cm.
