Description: Pla thu (Thai: ปลาทู): steamed and salted short mackerel (rastrelliger brachysoma) sold at Thanin market in Chiang Mai, Thailand. This fish is most often eaten fried as one of the dishes together with nam phrik kapi, a Thai dipping sauce made with chillies and shrimp paste. The fish in the bamboo steamers on this photo are about 12 centimetres (5 inches) in length.
