Description: The 1949 tram extension In 1949 the political climate in Leeds was still very pro-tram, it being considered that buses alone could not handle the high demand for public transport along the narrow streets of Central Leeds. In that year, the long-planned extension to join the termini at Middleton and Belle Isle took place so that circular working could begin. Feltham car 582 heads towards Belle Isle and the City here in 1957. This was the last major tram extension in Britain.
