Description: The Covenanters Monument at Philiphaugh This pyramidal-shaped cairn, situated in woodland to the west of the walled gardens in Philiphaugh Estate, is approximately 4m wide at the base tapering up to a height of about 6m, and some of the boulders at the base are 1.8m high. It was erected by Sir John Murray in honour of the Covenanters defeat of the Royalists at the Battle of Philiphaugh in 1645. General Sir David Leslie was the leader of the Covenanters against the Marquis of Montrose who commanded the Royalist Army.
