Description: The De Grey Rooms When a section of the city wall between Bootham Bar and the river was demolished in the 1830's, a new street [St Leonard's Place] was laid out to allow better access to the city centre. The De Grey Rooms were built on this street in 1841/2 as an officers mess for the Yorkshire Hussars, with a large assembly/ballroom on the first floor. The city's tourist information centre is now on the ground floor.
