Description: I am spending a few hours at the University of British Columbia's excellent Museum of Anthropology, best known for its First Nations artifacts and also boasting an excellent collection of objects from other cultures. This original wooden sculpture, by Bill Reid, was done in 1980, depicting the Haida culture's legend where a raven discovers the first humans inside a clamshell, on Queen Charlotte Island off the northwest coast of British Columbia. The sculpture was unveiled by Prince Charles and celebrated shortly afterwards by the Haida people.
