Thenon-commissioned officer in acting charge of the barracksand the gun crew took their stand at the salute battery,and men designated to lower and hoist the National Flagof the respective countries took their stand at the flag-staff. The officials or those specially invited to attend theceremony took their stands as follows, turning theirback to the fort: Nearest to the Kings Wharf the officials and thenthe members of the Colonial Council, the Consular body,and other parties invited. When the Representative of the United States left theAmerican man-of-war a salute of fifteen guns was firedfrom the Valkyrien flying the United States Flag fromher foremast, and the same salute was fired from thefort on the landing of the Representative. This being accomplished the Governor took his standin front of the Danish guard of honour, the UnitedStates Representative in front of the American guardof honour. In the name of His Majesty King Chris-tian the Tenth, the Governor proclaimed the islandstransferred to the United States of America uponwhich the guards of honour presented arms, the DanishNational Flag was lowered while the Danish bandplayed the National Anthem, and a salute of twenty-one guns was fired from the salute battery and all themen-of-war.
