In 1620 an English fleet under Mansell was sent to Algiers to confront the Barbary pirates who preyed on the trade route through the Straits of Gibraltar. After attempting to secure the release of prisoners, they sent fire ships into the pirate fleet moored in the Bay. Robert Norton took part in the action and drew this chart and view at first-hand.
