Description: Tiritiri Matangi lighthouse and the nearby macrocarpa tree. Tiritiri Matangi lighthouse is located near the southeastern end of Tiritiri Matangi Island, a wildlife sanctuary in New Zealand's Hauraki Gulf. It was once the most powerful lighthouse in the southern hemisphere. Macrocarpa trees (Cupressus macrocarpa) have been widely planted around New Zealand, especially on farms. The island was farmed for many years before becoming a nature reserve.
