Description: Together, the Tishman Building (left) and the Rand Building (right) represent the two contrasting philosophies of urban development in Buffalo in the 20th Century. The Tishman Building, built in 1958 in the name of "urban renewal" on the site of the lovely Second Empire-style Buffalo German Insurance Company, is widely considered a bland eyesore and has been abandoned since 2003. The Rand Building, on the other hand, is a lovely, beautifully restored, and fully occupied Art Deco skycraper that was built in 1929 and served as a stylistic antecedent to the Empire State Building.
