Description: Basilan's landscape is, like a painting, filled with habitats. From rainforests to coasts lined with mangroves and from hills to towering mountains the islands diverse geography creates a wide range of ecosystems. This diversity provides homes for species to thrive and adapt forming a tapestry of life. Basilan is known as a biodiversity hotspot since many species can only be found within its boundaries. The islands isolation has resulted in the development of plants and animals making it a center for species. However their protection, in a changing world poses challenges that need attention. Loss, overexploitation and climate change are threats faced by Basilans treasures. Nevertheless there are individuals and organizations working together to safeguard Basilans heritage through sustainable practices, education and advocacy. Basilan Island, Philippines
