Description: This Tsimshian Bentwood box dates from 1850. It is painted with a natural pigment: a dark red hematite or iron oxide. Found in Port Simpson, BC, it was used for centuries by BC's Northwest coast native Indians. It is now located at UBC's Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, Canada.
