Description: GROTON, Conn. (April 6, 2011) The fast attack submarine USS Memphis (SSN 691) passes the Ledge Light lighthouse at the mouth of the Thames River for the final time. Memphis was decommissioned April 1, at Shepard of the Sea Chapel after 33 years of active service. Memphis is traveling to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Maine to begin inactivation.
